Digging deeper into the Charleston shooting

-NAACP President Corenell William Brooks
- Why did you choose the interviewee(s) you chose with the theme you chose?
- I chose the three different interviewees for different strategic reasons. I chose Mike because he provided me with an elderly view as well as a good overview of the city of Charleston it self, I chose Seth because he brought diversity in the sense that he had experience in different African American Churches and I chose Taryn because not only had she been to Charleston the day before the shooting took place, but she provided a legal standpoint with her law studies.
- What was the context of the interview(s) - location, atmosphere, etc.
- I had a variety of context when interviewing my participants. Mike was over the phone as you might have been able to tell by the sound where as I was lucky enough to have Seth and Taryn over to my apartment in order to get a one on one interview with them.
- What themes emerged from your interview(s)?
- The main themes that I picked up on during my interview where gun control, levels of insanity, racism, law, security and the overall mind boggling of why the event actually took place.
- What were some highlights of the interview(s)? Difficult moments? Moments of rapport?
- I think the highlight of the interview for me was actually being able to hear the interesting thought process and stories that I was told. I wasn't aware of some of the things that I was going to hear and that alone was interesting for me. It was difficult for me to keep the interview at a good pace and flow smoothly as well as putting it all together. This was the longest project I've had to edit in a program that I'm still new at.
- In what ways did this course prepare you to help tell this composite story?
- This course helped me mainly in the sense that it gave me experience with editing software as well as the knowledge of the seven important aspects of storytelling that I tried to follow.
- Add whatever else you believe would make this website a good resource for the public - a good story. A list of links for further information? A blurb about you as the interviewer? Other digital objects? This is your project; make it meaningful.
- I want people to hear all of the different views presented in my project that come from people just like you and me. I feel like often times when we hear interviews or news about awful events like this, we hear from famous people or news reporters whereas this comes from people just like you and me which I think is special. Enjoy!
